Dust off your derby hats and get ready to cheer—Switchback Brewing Co. is bringing the Kentucky Derby to Burlington with the Green Up Throwdown!

After you’ve helped out with Green Up Vermont, join us for the ultimate post-cleanup celebration. Watch the big race live on the big screen while enjoying mint juleps, BBQ, and Switchback brews.

But the real action? Our Hobby Horse Racing, where teams will compete in a fun and fast-paced showdown for glory.

Whether you're here for the races, the live music, food or just the good times, this is a derby party you won’t want to miss!

Event Highlights:

  • Live Music – Featuring performances by 90 Proof and Otter Creek.

  • Hobby Horse Derby– Sign up a team, create your hobby horse and take on the competition in this entertaining race to the finish. Sign up now to secure your spot. Prizes for winners and best Hobby Horse! Starts at 3PM.

  • Kentucky Derby Hat Contest – Show off your best derby style with a hat made from recycled, repurposed, and reimagined materials. Bring your own creative masterpiece and compete for the best look. Judging at 5 PM.

  • Kentucky Derby Live Screening – Catch every moment of the most exciting two minutes in sports on the big screen. Starts at 6:45 PM

  • Mint Juleps, Beer & BBQ – Enjoy classic derby drinks, award-winning beer, and a full spread of BBQ.

Looking for a fun and exciting way to kick off your month? Join us for Latin Dance Night, happening on the first Tuesday of every month at Switchback Brewing Co.! Whether you’re a total beginner or have a little experience, this event is perfect for everyone looking to dance, connect, and have a great time.

Event Schedule:

- Beginner Salsa Class: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Discover the joy of Salsa dancing! In this beginner-friendly class, you'll learn the basic steps, rhythm, and partner connection to get you moving confidently. No partner or experience required—just bring your energy and enthusiasm!

Stick around after class for our lively dance social, drink and food! Enjoy a mix of Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Merengue, and more. It’s the perfect opportunity to practice your new moves, meet others, and immerse yourself in the vibrant Latin dance community.

Pints for Pugs is Back for 2025!

We’re excited to welcome back the Vermont Pug Meet-Up in our old dog-friendly Tap Room space. Bring your pugs (and other friendly pups) for an afternoon of tail wags, great beer, and community—all while supporting Green Mountain Pug Rescue.

Description
The third, and final, race in Freezy Cheeks, RunVermont's 3-race series of chip-timed 5Ks in January, February, and March. Open-start format, runners can start anytime from 11 am until 12 pm. We allow race-day registration and strongly encourage paying online. This third and final race will be hosted by Switchback Brewing Co. Registration includes one pint glass with purchase and there will be a running movie screening at 12 pm.

Your bib can be picked up from Skirack between 12 pm and 6 pm the Friday before the race or at the race under the RunVermont tent between 10:30 am and 12 pm. Skirack is providing participants who register for one race a limited 15% off coupon and participants who register for the series a limited 25% off coupon (please show proof of registration for single-use redemption in store at Skirack by 6/1/25, exclusions apply such as bikes, gift cards, discounted merchandise, etc.).
